The Hotel Palazzo Cicala, located just in front of the San
Lorenzo cathedral, in the hearth of the city centre, near
the main museums of Genova, dates back to the mid sixteenth
century, when the ancient Cicala family, which gave Genoa
leaders, poets and cardinals, was at the height of its splendour.
Afterwards, the palazzo belonged to the De Mari nobles, and
in the eighteenth century it was purchased by the Ferro family,
who restored and refurbished it in sophisticated Rococo style.
From the end of the nineteenth century the palazzo was converted
into offices, first for a major insurance company, Italia
Assicurazioni, and then for the Odino Valperga freight agency.
In June 1999 the palazzo once again passed into private hands,
and was returned to its original residential function. Here
in 2001 Locanda di Palazzo Cicala first opened.
